Potsdam, NY - With a three-goal outburst in the the third period, headlined by senior Juana Baribeau's (Amos, QUE) 100th career point, the Clarkson Univeristy Women's Hockey team completed an impressive offensive weekend with a 6-2 victory over Union College Saturday afternoon at Cheel Arena.

The Golden Knights won their third straight game to improve to 10-4-4 on the season and 6-3-1 in ECAC Hockey, avenging an early-season loss to the Dutchwomen. Union moved to 3-12-1, 1-5-1 on the year.

After recording 10 goals against Rensselaer on Friday and six more versus Union on Saturday, the Golden Knights tied a program-record for most goals in a weekend. The last time Clarkson had 16 goals in a two-day span was against Union College in October 2005. The figure was the most goals the Knights scored against different opponents in a single weekend.

Though Union began the game with a handful of shots, none of their chances were legitimate scoring opportunities. Clarkson, meanwhile, started out slow, but picked up the pace by scoring on its second shot of the game. Sophomore Jamie Lee Rattray (Kanata, ONT) wove through the defense and poked the puck through on the goalie’s stickside for her 10th goal of the season. Union goalkeeper Shenae Lundberg got a piece of the puck, but it still trickled across the goal line at 5:08, with assists going to Brittany Styner (Calgary, ALB) and Gabrielle Kosziwka (Limehouse, ONT).

The initial score got Clarkson’s offense going and the team tallied a second goal seven minutes later. With a mini-scrum in front Kosziwka was in the right place at the right time, 11:46, to pick up her fifth goal of the campaign, with the assists going to her linemates Styner and Rattray.

Union was rewarded for some consistent pressure in the middle of the second period as Jeannie Sabourin finished off a play in front of the net to end Clarkson’s hopes for a weekend shutout. Camille Corbin and Lauren Hoffman earned the assists on the goal, which came at 13:15 in the second period, as the Dutchwomen had spent a good deal of time in the Knights’ defensive end.

The Dutchwomen’s pressure came to an end quickly, however, as Clarkson responded with a goal less than two minutes later. Sophomore Vanessa Gagnon (St. Constant, QUE) skated from the left circle through the slot and backhanded a shot top shelf, recording the unassisted marker at 14:46.

Union kept things close in the third period, pulling to within a single score seven minutes into the final regulation frame. Stefanie Thomson controlled the puck between the slot and the blue line with a couple of quick moves and then wristed a shot over the gloveside shoulder of Erika Howe (Ottawa, ONT) to make the score 3-2. Linemates Nicole Bartlett and Mac Purvis each earned assists.

Clarkson picked up an insurance goal late in the third period as senior Juana Baribeau stole a puck near the blue line and skated in against a pair of defenders before beating Lundburg to her glove side at the 13:01 mark of the third period. The goal was the 52nd of her career and gave her 100 career points, becoming only the fifth player in Clarkson history to reach the milestone.

With an empty net at the Union end, Danielle Boudreau (Whitby, ONT) picked up a loose puck at the top of the circle in the Clarkson end and outmaneuvered a pair of defenders to score an empty-net goal from close to the red line at 18:25. Though Union goalkeeper Shenae Lundberg was back in net, the Knights picked up yet another insurance goal when Rattray skated through the slot and backhanded a shot with just 47 seconds left in the contest.

Clarkson finished the game with a 34-27 edge in shots, and neither team was whistled for a penalty in the entire contest. Howe finished with 25 saves, while Lundberg had 28 saves for Union.

Baribeau joined four others in Clarkson's 100-point club. Britney Selina had 148 points to lead the all-time scorers. Melissa Waldie scored 121 and Genevieve Lavoie and Marie-Jo Gaudet scored 110 and 109 points, respectively.
