Clarkson women's hockey Baribeau scores first and last in 4-0 shutout over Union

Schenectady, NY - Juana Baribeau (Amos, QUE) and the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team set the tone early Saturday afternoon. The junior forward scored what would would prove to be the game-winning goal just 21 seconds into the first period as the Golden Knights dispatched Union College 4-0 in the regular-season finale.

With the victory, the Golden Knights secured the sixth-seed in the ECAC Hockey playoffs and will face Dartmouth next weekend. Clarkson split with the Big Green during the regular season, scoring an overtime victory in New Hampshire while succumbing 3-1 at Cheel last weekend.

Clarkson, which has never lost in 16 games against the Dutchwomen, jumped all over the opponents immediately as Baribeau scored her eighth goal of the season in the opening minute with assists going to freshman Carly Mercer (Exeter, ONT) and senior Melissa Waldie (Newmarket, ONT). Waldie added the first of three insurance goals midway through the frame, tallying her team-best 15th goal of the campaign at the 10:19 mark with just a few ticks remaining on the power play. Mercer, again, assisted, as did classmate Jamie-Lee Rattray (Kanata, ONT).

Although the game didn't fall into a blowout, Clarkson continued to control play as Danielle Skirrow (Trenton, ONT) scored an unassisted marker, her 10th goal of the year, late in the second period, and Baribeau added a short-handed, unassisted goal midway through the third period.

Freshman Erica Howe (Ottawa, ONT) picked up her second career shutout, stopping 20 shots to earn her ninth win of the year. Kate Gallagher of Union made 28 saves.
