After a difficult season-opening stretch of non-conference games, the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team begins ECAC Hockey play this weekend, hosting Union and Rensselaer at Cheel Arena. The Golden Knights face off against the Dutchwomen on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and battle the Engineers on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.

The Knights, guided by third-year co-head coaches Matt and Shannon Desrosiers and assistant coach Matt Kelly, have just a 1-6-1 overall record to show for their efforts, but a young Green and Gold squad has been a tough opponent to play.

This past weekend in New England, Clarkson took the early lead against two formidable foes on the road, but suffered one-goal losses at UNH (2-1) and fifth-ranked Boston University (3-2).

The Knights offense is starting to come around with six goals in the past three games after recording just two in the first five contests. Juniors Juana Baribeau (Amos, QUE), with two goals and two assists, and Brittany Mulligan (London, ONT), with four assists, lead the team in the point column.

Senior Melissa Waldie (Newmarket, ONT) became the fourth Clarkson player all-time to reach the Century mark when she tallied her 100th point with the Knights’ goal at UNH on Friday. Through 120 career games, Waldie, who has three points (2-1) this season, has tallied 54 goals and 46 assists.

Sophomore Danielle Skirrow (Trenton, ONT) leads the team in goals with three after scoring just once in her rookie campaign. Freshman Jamie Lee Rattray (Kanata, ONT) leads the Clarkson newcomers with three points (0-3).

Senior Lauren Dahm (Baldwinsville, NY) has seen the bulk of the action in the Clarkson goal with seven starts. She posts a .919 save percentage and a 2.96 goals against average. Dahm, who was honored as ECAC Hockey MLX Goaltender of the Week, gave the Knights a chance to pull off the upset at Boston University by making a career-high 48 saves, including a record 23 stops in the third period.

Freshman Erica Howe (Ottawa, ONT) got her first collegiate start on Friday at UNH and stopped 27 of 29 shots.

After six straight games in Schenectady, Union takes to the road for the first time of the season, looking to improve upon its 1-5 record. The Dutchwomen lost two to Syracuse last weekend, falling 3-1 and 5-0.

Rensselaer, which plays at St. Lawrence on Friday, owns a 1-4-2 record. The Engineers picked up their first win of the season last Friday with a 3-2 victory at Providence, but lost at Northeastern 5-1 on Sunday.

Clarkson has never lost to Union and has shut out the Dutchwomen in 10 of the 14 wins.

The Knights have battled Rensselaer even in their 10-game series with each team recording four wins and two ties. The Engineers own a current four-game (3-0-1) unbeaten streak over the Green and Gold.
