Bears’ Ciampa garners academic honor

POTSDAM -- SUNY Potsdam senior Tim Ciampa has been named to the 2010 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District I Men’s Soccer second team, the organization announced Tuesday as it released its academic all-district men’s soccer teams.

A Castleton, N.Y., native, Ciampa currently maintains a stellar 3.95 cumulative grade point average and is majoring in mathematics and education.

“Tim is one of our leaders on and off the field,” Potsdam coach Adam Parker said. “I am not surprised he has earned this prestigious honor. We’re proud to say Tim was a part of our program for four years.”

Ciampa, a midfielder, was a team captain during the 2010 season as one of just two four-year players on the Potsdam men’s soccer team. He tied for the team lead with six points (two goals, two assists) in 16 games played, all starts.

“Tim knew how important his role is as a captain and took everything that happened within the team personally,” Parker said. “When the chips were down, we could always count on him to get his teammates motivated and focused.”

Ciampa was one of just two State University of New York Athletic Conference players to receive either first- or second-team honors.
