To the Editor:
As pastor of the Potsdam First Presbyterian Church for the past 7 1/2 years, I have had the privilege to serve on various committees and boards in the surrounding community. On Thursday, Dec. 9, I was totally surprised by an organization that is near and dear to my heart, Head Start. The Head Start children, staff, my church staff and my wife conspired to celebrate my imminent retirement by feting me at a special luncheon.
What a thrill! The children created a picture calendar, a huge handmade poster with congratulations from each of them, and presented me with a coffee mug with pictures of all 33 children.
The Head Start staff signed a card that I will treasure with all the other gifts. I share this moment with the communities of St. Lawrence County because I want all to know the incredible work that is being doine for the children and parents. The staff at Potsdam Head Start is exceptional and sets a wonderful example throughout the year (in our case, for the past 30 years plus) of compassionate care, innovative teaching, and sensitivity for our young citizens. I feel honored to have had the opportunity to get to know each of the children throughout the years and the teachers and aides who provide such a safe and nurturing environment.
Thank you Head Start children and staff for your wonderful thoughtfulness.
Rev. Dr. D. Richard Will, Pastor
