To the Editor:
In response to “Opinion: Most of St. Lawrence County is very conservative and supports Trump, Gouverneur man say”, I, J. Neil Devine, as a long time (70 years, out of a life of 88 years) resident of Northern New York, have to give a great deal of credit to the writer for his recent opinion.
He indeed is right on the political make up of the residents in St. Lawrence County. It’s too bad that that opinion article was not published in the Feb. 26-March 4, 2021 edition of “North Country This Week”. The week before there were a number of articles and opinions, which can be considered anti-Trump et al., and kind of “progressive”.
That reflects the freedom of speech and press we all have and treasure, but in my opinion it does not represent the majority of Northern New Yorkers I have known and dealt with over the years.
The “Progressive” group live, work and express their beliefs in a limited area of the largest county in New York State.
God bless them, but Mr. Wetmore is one of the brave "silent majority” who knows our home county and the ordinary residents.
