Opinion: Some things transcend politics, says Bombay resident

To the Editor:

I wish I had not read the story this morning of the 10 year old little girl with cerebral palsy dying a horrific death of repeated neglect and abuse in Massena last year. No doubt it sickens me knowing that what should only be happening anywhere but here – does happen right here in St. Lawrence County.

Anyway, you will have to read the story yourself to grasp the full horror of it. But even if you do not, know this about it. It is the story of why when you go to the polls in November, you need to vote for the right St. Lawrence County Family Court Judge. Who in my opinion is Alexander Lesyk. For two reasons, neither of which have anything to do with politics.

First, because I know him and believe he has the intelligence and requisite compassion to do what has to be the world’s most heart wrenching job. More importantly though, he has the practical experience and knows exactly what he will be getting into here, given his current service as the Principal Court Attorney in Family Court over there in Franklin County.

Anyway, I will keep this short and end by saying the simple reason I titled this letter “Some Things Transcend Politics” is because I honestly believe some things really do. With who we vote in as St. Lawrence County Family Court Judge a real good example. Especially for the far too many children in this County who need the person ultimately in charge of looking out for them, to already be experienced and up to speed in how to do that.
