To the Editor:

The Potsdam Police Benevolent Association recently polled its members regarding the endorsement of a candidate in the forthcoming election for the office of the Sheriff of St. Lawrence County. Those members choosing to do so voted unanimously in support of Detective Rick Engle in his campaign for the post.

The St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office is an outstanding organization of men and women who have sworn themselves to the citizens of St. Lawrence County. Their coordination and mutual benefit to the state and municipal law enforcement agencies within the county is vital in our shared effort to protect and serve our communities. In twenty-three years of service to our county, Detective Engle has demonstrated an undeniable ability to coordinate and work with other law enforcement agencies in a respectful, professional manner, as evidenced by the endorsement of many of the agencies within its borders. He exemplifies the values defined in the Mission Statement of the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office: Integrity, Professionalism, Service, and Respect.

Potsdam Police Department has maintained an outstanding cooperative relationship with the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, past and present; PPBA membership anticipates this professional respect to continue regardless of the election results.
