I am writing to express my horror and disgust at the current attitude toward asylum-seekers in our country.
We have forsaken our commitment to be a nation of compassion and hospitality, and instead have become a nation that criminalizes humanitarian aid and institutionalizes cruelty.
The hundreds, or maybe thousands, of children being separated from family and held in filthy cages without adequate hygiene, food, water, medical care, or any human comfort, are just the natural result of the policies of racism, nationalism and self-interest that our leaders call "Putting America first."
For the love of all that is human and sane, let us do all that is in our power to oppose the inhuman policies of the current administration, Customs and Border Patrol, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement with regard to immigration and humanitarian aid. And let's take care of those children.
