CANTON -- SUNY Canton has once again earned several mentions in U.S. News & World Report's Best Colleges rankings, including a 13th place spot on the Best Value Schools list and an 11th place spot on Top Public Schools list.

U.S. News determines 10 distinct overall rankings where SUNY Canton was grouped with other colleges from the region with similar academic missions. The publication evaluates graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, class sizes, selectivity, and financial resources available for students, among other criteria.

"The biggest takeaway from our rankings is outside agencies continue to recognize that we offer a great education at a tremendous value," said SUNY Canton President Zvi Szafran. "As a college that offers applied, career-driven academic programs, our success really transcends lists and rankings. Our students and graduates are the proof of our accomplishments and reflect our mission and values."

The college was also ranked 17 in the Best Regional Colleges North category. It has held a place on this list since 2011 when it took the number 43 spot.

"As we continue to grow and expand our programs and continue to levy our strengths in online academics, we'll likely see further improvements in our rankings," said Provost Peggy A. De Cooke. "Great things are on the horizon at SUNY Canton."

The college was ranked 6 in the Best for Veterans list, following its tradition of being recognized as a top college for active military personnel, veterans and their spouses.

U.S. News debuted a new ranking in 2019 for Top Performers on Social Mobility.The college has continually made an appearance on that list and earned the 25 position this year. The publication indicated that colleges are measured by how well Pell Grant recipients perform. These students typically come from households whose family incomes are less than $50,000 annually.

"SUNY Canton has traditionally been an access college with solid opportunities for first-generation or financially disadvantaged students," Szafran said. "There are numerous resources available for students from all different backgrounds."

In January 2022, SUNY Canton received notification that it was included in the U.S. News & World Report Best Online Bachelor's Programs List. The college was ranked 138 among its peer accredited online institutions in the overall list, 77 in the Best Online Bachelor's Programs for Veterans, and 62 in Best Online Bachelor's in Business Programs.

University HQ ranked SUNY Canton 7 on its Best Online Forensic Science & Crime Investigation Bachelor's Programs list.
