FORT COVINGTON -- Salmon River Central School has announced their leaders of the Class of 2021. Myranda O. Collette has been named valedictorian and Emily E. Healy has been named salutatorian.

Myranda Collette, valedictorian, has been a member of the Salmon River Central School community for the past 13 years. She finishes her high school career with a weighted GPA of 107.58. Myranda has committed to Clarkson University in the fall, majoring in Mathematical Economics. After completing her Bachelor’s degree, Myranda plans to continue her education.

Myranda is the daughter of Gary and Lisa Collette. She also has two brothers, Andrew and Evan, and one sister, Madison Collette, of Fort Covington.

Myranda will be earning an Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors and Mastery Designation in Science and Math. She has excelled in a rigorous college preparatory program which includes both AP and Honors courses.

“The one thing I admire most about Myranda is that she is not afraid to experience opportunities that will better herself as a person. I love that she continuously strives to do her best at all she does in school and in sports,” said Middle School Dean, Terri Swamp.

Myranda has been a member of the Varsity Girls Soccer, Hockey, and Softball teams during her time at Salmon River. She has been a captain of the Varsity Girls Soccer and Hockey teams. Myranda was named Second Team All Northern her junior year and earned First Team All Northern Honors her senior year for Soccer.

Collette has also been an Assistant Captain since she was a junior on the Girls Varsity Hockey Team. Collette was part of the 2018 Girls Hockey Team that won the Section 10 title and finished second in the State. Notably, Myranda is a yearly recipient of Section 10’s Academic All-Northern award. She also participates on a club soccer team located in Cornwall and a State Bound Hockey Travel Team, St. Lawrence Steel.

Throughout high school, Myranda has participated in a wide variety of extracurricular pursuits, including several enrichment activities. She is the National Honor Society Treasurer and Senior Class Vice President. Myranda is a member of Sources of Strength, Spanish Club, a student mentor, and Freshman Orientation leader. Myranda mentors young athletes in the North Franklin Sports Organization. She also participated in the Clarkson Horizons I, II, and III Pre-College Program and the Clarkson Global Women in Chemistry Breakfast.

Last year Myranda received the Clarkson University Achievement Award, RIT Computing Medal, and the Wilkes University Colonel Emerging Leader Award.

Myranda’s encouragement to upcoming seniors is, “high school success comes from hard work, dedication, and desire. Success doesn’t come easily; it is something you have to work towards but if you are willing to put in the effort and time anything is possible.”

Salmon River High School’s Emily Healy, Salutatorian for the Class of 2021, is the daughter of James and Cindy Healy of Fort Covington.
