Nancy LaBaff, outstanding goalie, inducted into SUNY Potsdam's Hall of Fame

POTSDAM – Nancy LaBaff, Class of 1982, was inducted into the SUNY Potsdam Bears’ Hall of Fame recently.

LaBaff, a Norwood native, played in goal for the Potsdam skaters on the Bears teams from 1979-82. In that time she was in goal for more hockey wins for the Bears than any other man or woman in school history.

During her high school years, LaBaff played for the Stonettes, a girls team mostly made up of Potsdam players, according to a story on SUNY Potsdam’s website. After a game against Brockville, she was recruited to play for the Brockville Senior Angels. After four seasons with the Angels, she was headed to college and wasn't thinking about continuing her hockey career. Fortunately for the Bears, then head coach Butler Sullivan recruited her for Potsdam.

LaBaff closed her college career with a 68-18-2 record for a .784 winning percentage and 17 shutouts.

LaBaff was inducted into the 2019 Hall of Fame class while her adoring father, Ernie LaBaff, looked on.

She was installed along with outstanding Potsdam lacrosse player Rashaun Durden, who played for the Bears in 2009-2012.

See the long story on Nancy LaBaff at the SUNY Potsdam Women’s Hockey website.
