MASSENA – A graduating senior at Massena High School has been named the 2023 recipient of the Jeannette and Saul Rosenbaum Memorial Scholarship.

Aidan Aldous, son of Lisa and Christopher Aldous of Shoreline Drive in Massena, will receive $500 toward his first year of college studies. He will matriculate this fall at Clarkson University, where he hopes to study mechanical engineering.

The scholarship, named in memory of two lifelong Massena residents, is designated annually for a graduating senior at Massena HS who has made a significant commitment to volunteer service.

Aidan is being honored for his dedicated work as a mentor in the Learn to Lead program, which has paired him with an at-risk student.

In school, he has played ice hockey and soccer and performed in several music and theater groups. He ranks 8th in his graduating class of 190.

In his personal essay for the scholarship, Aidan reflected on the impact of his mentoring relationship, writing: “Learning what other people regularly endure entirely changed me. This pivotal moment in my life shifted the way I viewed others.”

The Rosenbaum scholarship, which is awarded annually, is funded by grandchildren of Saul and Jeannette Rosenbaum, whose two children, Ruth and Joel, graduated from Massena High School in the 1940s. Saul Rosenbaum owned and operated a men’s clothing store for many years on Main Street in Massena.
