Brasher Falls student named Potsdam Rotary Club Student of the Month

POTSDAM – Gracie Lalonde, a student from Brasher Falls Central School, and The Seaway Career & Technical Education Center has been named Potsdam Rotary Club Student of the Month for September.

She is a student in the Criminal Justice Program and the daughter of Mark LaLonde and Trisha McCarthy.

Criminal Justice is a two-year college level program that provides students with a working knowledge of the criminal justice system. This includes the role and duties of law enforcement officers at all levels, the function of the court system at all levels, the tasks and duties of personnel involved in the probation and parole system, the purpose of special interest police (DEC, Park Police, etc.), the role of personnel in the area of security, an understanding of the New York State Procedural and Penal Laws and investigative techniques. In addition, students will receive certification in the New York State Security Guard Training Program, Adult & Infant/Child CPR and AED along with dual enrollment opportunities.

As a student in Criminal Justice, Gracie has had the opportunity to learn the different aspects of the criminal justice system including hands on projects in the classroom, in the lab and outside. She will have the opportunity to do work-based learning in the Spring to enhance her exposure to different fields that she may choose to go into after graduation.

Students selected as Program Student of the Month for their class include Kyle King, auto technology, Brasher Falls; Zoey Mattice, education & human services, Canton; Ephrem Brill, HVAC/R, Brasher Falls; Evan Converse, natural resource management, Massena; and Madelyn Blanchard, new visions medical careers, Massena.
