TEDxStLawrenceU in Canton Saturday

CANTON — St. Lawrence University will host its third live TEDxStLawrenceU event with 10 student, faculty and alumni speakers, beginning at noon on Saturday, March 9, in Peterson-Kermani Hall.

Tickets are free and can be reserved online at www.tedxstlawrenceu.com.

TEDx is a student organized event that follows in the tradition of national TED events, with speakers sharing their original ideas to the St. Lawrence community.

This year’s TEDxStLawrenceU theme, “Time to Change?”, was chosen to open up a discussion about the different areas of our world that are changing.

The presenters are focusing on answering the question “how can we achieve change?”

Speakers and their topics include:

• Madelyn Lares ’19, “On Thin Ice”

• Madeleine Frank ’19, “The Art of Shit- Talking”

• Paul Doty, interim librarian for Special Collections, “Let Me Show You a Book”

• Adam Fox, assistant professor of psychology, “New Hope for Solving Problems of Human Behavior”

• Andy Chan ’14, “Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Work”

• Caitlin Smith ’16, “Autistic Awakening”

• Megan Carpenter, assistant professor of psychology, “Invisible Academics: Supporting LGBTQ+ Faculty and Students on College Campuses”

• Kate Songer ’19, “Filling Our Stomachs, Starving Our Planet”

• Karson Humiston ’15, "The Perfect Time to Start a Business: College”

• Brandon Moran ’19, “Dehumanization of Undocumented Immigrants”

In 2015, St. Lawrence students and faculty had the idea to host TEDx event.

The event was eventually endorsed by the University’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee then led and organized by St. Lawrence students.

The first TEDxStLawrenceU took place in November 2016.

The event will be streamed live on the Internet.
