St. Lawrence University hosting several performances in February

CANTON — The following performances will be staged at St. Lawrence University in February:

• Friday, Feb. 18, 8 p.m., Sara Davis Buechner Piano Concert, Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall, St. Lawrence University. Free and open to the public. Concert pianist Sara Buechner is known for her musical command, cosmopolitan artistry, and visionary independence. She will perform pieces by G.F Handel, Wolfgang Mozart, Federico Longas, George Gershwin, and her own compositions.

• St. Lawrence University Chorus Presents: Frostiana, an evening with Robert Frost and Randall Thomas, Sunday, Feb. 20, 2 p.m., Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall, St. Lawrence University. The St. Lawrence University Chorus, accompanied by pianist Gerri McGrath, will sing Randall Thompson's musical compositions of Robert Frost's poems, accompanied by readings from St. Lawrence Craig Professor and Chair of English Sarah Gates and St. Lawrence Assistant Professor of English Sookyoung Lee.

• Film Screening: My Buddha is Punk, Monday, Feb. 21, 6 p.m., Carnegie Hall, Room 10, St. Lawrence University. The film "My Buddha is Punk," directed by Andreas Hartmann, follows a young Burmese punk as he travels across the country to promote his philosophy- a symbiosis of Buddhism and punk that rejects religious dictates and political doctrine in the former military dictatorship of Myanmar. The screening is presented in conjunction with the exhibition "Storm: The Fight for Democracy in Myanmar & the Diaspora" currently on display at the St. Lawrence Richard F. Brush Art Gallery through Saturday, Feb. 26.

• Cocek! Brass Band Concert, Tuesday, Feb. 22, 8 p.m., Launders Underground, St. Lawrence University. The Cocek! Brass Band will perform compositions inspired by the music of the Balkans, New Orleans, and other brass bands from around the world. There is limited seating for this in-person event. Masks are required of all individuals attending in person per the University's COVID-19 policies. For up-to-date campus mask policies, visit St. Lawrence's Always Forward website.

These events are free and open to the public.

Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall is located in Griffiths Arts Center, 23 Romoda Drive.

Carnegie Hall Room 10 is located in the lower level of Carnegie Hall, next to Gunnison Memorial Chapel.

The Launders Underground is located on the lower level of the Noble Center.
