CANTON – St. Lawrence County Animal Response Team (CART) will offer training for volunteers on emergency animal shelter set-up on Saturday, April 22, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at Louisville Town Offices/Highway Department.
This training will help active and potential volunteers understand how to evaluate and set up an emergency sheltering facility with equipment from a CART trailer. This training will cover small animals (cats and dogs) through a combination of presentation and hands-on practice with live animals.
To attend, RSVP to StLawrenceCART@gmail.com.
St. Lawrence CART’s mission is to help with animals evacuated from emergency situations, and training like this helps volunteers get ready for these situations.
People are far less likely to evacuate their homes during emergencies if they are unable to take their pets with them, making these plans instrumental in emergency planning and ensuring everyone’s safety, say CART organizers.
St. Lawrence County Emergency Services is working with other local county and state agencies to help develop and train a volunteer force who can be called upon to help care for evacuated animals during or after an emergency such as apartment fires, flooding or ice storms.
