Seaway Festival returns to Ogdensburg July 24

OGDENSBURG - The Ogdensburg International Seaway Festival will return for its 60th edition July 24 to Aug. 1.

This year’s festival welcomes many of the traditional events and activities, including the fireworks display on July 30 and the parade on July 31.

“Everyone is thrilled to death. I am receiving messages daily,” said Laurel Lee Roethel, festival co-organizer.

To date, three professional music groups will perform - The Downbeats Percussion from Buffalo, Prime Time Brass from Rochester, and the return of the Hit Men, also from Rochester.

“This year’s event will be slightly different but will definitely be a welcome sight,” said Chris Cole, Seaway Festival organizer in a website post. “Other musical groups are actively being sought. School bands are unsure of Covid rules so they may be a last-minute addition. “We expect a huge number of floats from groups, businesses and individuals. We hope that most floats will have some music to add to the festivities.”

Politicians will be allowed to march in the parade with an advertising fee in place - $100 entry cost for city races, $250 for county races and $500 for state level and above. These fees help to cover parade expenses. Boasting twice the normal expenditure, this year’s fireworks show is expected to be the largest display in Seaway Festival history.

The popular t-shirts and buttons ($2) are now on sale with a theme of “We’re Back and Beating COVID.” T-shirt sizes are small, medium, large, XL, 2XL (prices may vary) - for larger sizes (special order only).

T-shirts can be picked up at Roethel Parcel Service/River Rat Designs, 1801 Ford St., Cutting Edge, 214 Burton Lane, Salon 1020, 1020 Ford St., and Community Bank, 825 State St. and 320 Ford St.
