POTSDAM -- Potsdam Community Chorus celebrates its 10th anniversary with a gala concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, in Hosmer Hall, SUNY Potsdam.
The concert is free and all are invited to attend. Donations are accepted to fund the chorus's musical outreach programming. An English "high tea" reception will follow in the Crane Commons.
Led by musical director Dr. Jeffrey Francom of the Crane faculty, the chorus, instrumentalists and soloists will perform music from the English cathedral organ tradition, by composers ranging from the 17th century's Henry Purcell (Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary, 1695) to the 20th century's Leonard Bernstein (Chichester Psalms), 1965) Bernstein's electrifying work for countertenor, chorus, soloists, organ, harp, and percussion was commissioned for the 1965 Southern Cathedrals' Festival at Chichester Cathedral in the UK.
The Crane Men's Ensemble, also led by Dr. Francom, shares the program. The ensemble will perform Irish and American folk music, a piece by Michael Sitton, Dean of The Crane School, and an Indian raga. The men will join the community chorus for the Bernstein and for O Love of God, How Strong and True (1916), by C. Hubert H. Parry.
