CANTON - "Our African-American Heritage" is the theme for the next organ recital at the lunch hour in St. Lawrence University's Gunnison Memorial Chapel, featuring Musician-in-Residence Sondra Goldsmith Proctor and the Ad Hoc Singers, at 12:15 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 25. Those attending are encouraged to bring their lunch to eat while enjoying the music.
In recognition of February as Black History Month, the recital features the music of Florence Beatrice Price and familiar spirituals in old and new settings. Price (1887-1953) is the first African-American woman recognized as a major composer.
Joining Goldsmith Proctor for this performance are the Ad Hoc Singers, Alexandra Jacobs, Peter Jensen-Moulton, Lansing Laraway, Julia Pomainville and Laura Ramsey. For more information, call 229-5630.
