OGDENSBURG — Ogdensburg Public Library will host a free talk Friday, June 2 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium with Douglas M. Carlson, Research Associate at SUNY Potsdam who is a retired fisheries biologist with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. He will speak about the book, “Fishes of Northern New York, Tributaries of the St. Lawrence water system and the Adirondacks.”

Carlson will have copies of his books for sale as well as other displays to enhance his discussion.

“Fishes of Northern New York are characterized as those from tributaries along the St. Lawrence River corridor and in the Adirondacks region at higher elevations. The speaker will tell of the more common fish species and describe the ways fish communities have changed. A recently published booklet will provide more details and illustrate the relationships between fish in the lowland and upland regions. He was a regional fish biologist for NYSDEC from 1980-2019 at Watertown headquarters and retired to continue some of the work through SUNY Potsdam. His assignments in fish management were with stream surveys, management of rare fishes and outreach for youth fishing. Another book he completed was an “atlas of NY inland fishes” that is available as an online download.”
