Norwood Green Concert Series announces 2011 lineup; rock, blues, jazz, Celtic music planned

NORWOOD – The Norwood Village Green Concert Series has announced the lineup of performers for its 38th annual season, continuing the tradition for unique program that are free and open to the public.

At one end of the spectrum the SLCMEA pop choral/stage band festival will include 10 school groups representing Massena, Potsdam, Colton-Pierrepont, Madrid-Waddington, Hermon-DeKalb and Norwood-Norfolk Central schools.

At the other end of the spectrum a recipient of France’s highest honor, the Légion d’Honneur and our country’s highest arts award, the National Medal of Arts, Paul Taylor will be represented through his company, Taylor 2.

The series will present Ireland’s revered McPeake family from Belfast, representing four generations of traditional Irish music, as well as a recipient of five Jazz Journalists awards for trombonist of the year, Wycliffe Gordon.

It will bring together a master teacher of guitar and two of his students, one a master of jazz and the other a master of the folk tradition. The series welcomes Dick Stephan, Paul Meyers and Danny Gotham.

It will also feature one of the greatest acoustic guitarists on this planet, Frank Vignola. one of Canada’s brightest young blues guitarists, JJ Jones with his band and Magpie, the folk duo. Added to this mix of world class performers the series welcomes a bevy of local and regional performers, the Bluegrass Gospel Project from Vermont, Don Washington, Six Foot Midget, The Acoustic Brothers, The Debt, Martha Gallagher, Brian Melick, Karen Montanaro, Northern Symphonic Winds, Robin Dow Hopper, the Dave Alderson Quartet with Tiffany Alderson and Sarah Simon, Dan Gagliardi, Bill Viteck and Kyle Tupper, and the Brass Firemen.

All concerts are at 7 p.m. except where noted.
