CANTON -- A combined North Country Sustainability Day & Green Living Fair will take place Friday and Saturday, April 22-23 at St. Lawrence University.

The aim is to inspire and empower people to combat the global climate crisis by fostering a culture of sustainability across the North Country and beyond.

Talks, workshops, demonstrations, posters, exhibits and networking opportunities will explore sustainability issues and highlight ways to eat local, conserve energy, reduce bills and be climate smart.

Robin Wall Kimmerer, acclaimed author of Gathering Moss and Braiding Sweetgrass, will deliver the keynote address, “The Honorable Harvest,” at 4 p.m. on Friday in Gulick Theatre inside the Noble Center at SLU.

In addition to being a well-respected writer, Kimmerer is a mother, plant ecologist, and Distinguished Teaching Professor at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse.

A reception and book-signing will follow the address. Books will be sold at the reception and are also at the SLU Brewer Bookstore.

The event will be live-streamed in a nearby location for the overflow.

The live-stream will also be available to all at https://www.stlawu.edu/offices/music/livestream

Additional support for the keynote was provided by the Clarkson University Office of the Provost; St. Lawrence University Dean of Academic Affairs; SUNY Canton Living Writers Series; St. Lawrence University Departments of Global Studies, Sociology, and English; and the St. Lawrence Office of Diversity & Inclusion.

An art exhibit, “Indigenous Perceptions of Nature,” will be on display at the Richard F. Brush Art Gallery in Griffiths Art Center G1 beginning at 7 a.m. on Friday.

The exhibit will be on display until June 4.
