CANTON -- The Canton community and St. Lawrence University campus will pool resources at Make a Difference in Canton on Saturday, Oct. 23.
Each year, volunteers rake yards for elderly homeowners, provide maintenance at playgrounds, parks and cemeteries and perform general fall chores throughout the Canton community.
The event is sponsored by St. Mary's Church, Canton Catholic Campus Ministry, St. Lawrence University and the Canton Chamber of Commerce.
This event is not possible without the support of Coakley Home and Hardware and SeaComm Federal Credit Union.
This event has been going on for more than 20 years and despite challenges brought on by Covid, last year was a big success with more than 300 volunteers raking leaves, fixing fences, painting playgrounds and so much more. Due to the ongoing pandemic, any community volunteer does not need to come to SLU to check in.
Businesses may also wish to donate rakes, paper leaf bags, gloves or refreshments to the volunteer crews. Anyone wishing to make a donation should contact the Canton Chamber at 315-386-8255. In addition, anyone needing work done at their home or a local non-profit can contact the St. Lawrence University Student Activities Office at 315-229-5135.
