CANTON – Children six and over are invited to join the fun at The TAUNY Center on Thursday, March 3, from 3:45 to 5:15 p.m. to learn about Mardi Gras and make their own masks.
TAUNY Folklorist Hannah Harvester will help kids understand the tradition of Mardi Gras and why people have disguised themselves on that day for more than a thousand years.
Fiber artist Lyndsi Comins will teach children how to make their own one-of-a-kind, all-natural Mardi Gras masks using burlap, yarn, feathers, and plant material.
All materials will be provided but children are welcome to bring in any material they would like to include in their masks.
The cost to make Mardi Gras masks is $5 for TAUNY members and $8 for non-members. Class size is limited and pre-registration is required by contacting 386-4289 or hannah@tauny.org.
