CANTON -- Once again Cooperative Extension staff will be offering classes for children during the winter school break at the Extension Learning Farm on Rt. 68.
Things such as puppetmaking, karate, animal signs and a public presentation clinic are planned.
Each class has a fee to cover the cost of materials and facility use.
• Fashion a Fish and Gyotaku, Feb. 22, 12:30-2p.m.; traditional form of Japanese fish printing that dates back to the mid-19th century. $5 per participant.
• Puppet Fun, Feb. 22, 9:30-11:30 a.m.; create a homemade puppet out of socks and felt. $5. Recommended for ages 5-10.
• Scented Hot Pad, Feb. 23, 1-3 p.m.; learn some basic sewing skills in making a scented hot pad to take home; bring a sewing machine if available, white thread and scissors; all other material supplied for $5 per participant.
• Public Presentation Clinic, Feb. 24, 10:15 a.m.-noon; 4-H leader Judy Boyer leads public presentation clinic to help 4-H’ers and others prepare public presentations.
• Introduction to Karate, Feb. 24, 1-3 p.m.; beginning techniques; learn about the culture and history of karate from black belt instructor Kristin Colarusso; snacks. $5.
• Animal Signs and Tracking, Feb. 25, 10 a.m.-noon; students develop observation skills as they learn about basic wildlife signs and sounds; explore snow-covered woods in search of evidence of wildlife that resides at the Extension Learning Farm. Snowshoes will be available or bring your own. $5.
