Events offered countywide to celebrate Veterans Day

Several events are planned around the county to celebrate Veteran’s Day this year.

In Heuvelton, the Amvets Post 1997, 107 State St., will have a Veterans Day Service at the Heuvelton Town Hall, 51 State St. on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. Luncheon will follow.

The Massena Disabled American Veterans Chapter 171 will host Veteran’s Day services on Nov. 11.

A parade from the Massena American Legion Post 79 to the fire station is planned.

Those participating should meet at the Legion at 10 a.m. The parade will kick off at 10:45 a.m.

Veteran’s Day services will start at 11 a.m. at the fire station.

Those who want to participate in the parade by cannot march can ride in a van provided by the DAV.

A buffet will be offered at the Massena Amvets post after the services.

Edward C. Seymour Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1231 in Canton will host a Veterans Day ceremony on Friday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. at the post, 34 Gouverneur St. The ceremony will be led by VFW Post Chaplain John Saucier. Refreshments will be served following the event.

A Veterans’ Day lunch will be offered Friday, Nov. 11, from 11:30 -3:00 at the Ogdensburg Elks Lodge, 322 Caroline Street.

The menu will be a choice of clam chowder or beef macaroni and tomato, chicken salad, egg salad or tuna salad sandwiches.

The lunch is free for area veterans and $8 for all others. Eat in, take out, or delivery. Call 315-393-5430

The Heuvelton Amvets Post 1997, Auxiliary and Sons of Amvets will stage its fourth year Veterans Run and Walk on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 9 a.m. The event will benefit the Wounded Warriors Outback Adventures programs. The start and finish will be at the Amvets post. There will be awards given to age categories.

A free t-shirt is included with the $20 registration fee while supplies last.

A waiver must be signed at the time of registration which starts 9 a.m. Opening ceremony will be held at approximately 9:45.

In Star Lake, the American Legion Mervin Eno Post 1539, 264 Benson Mines Rd., will host a Veteran’s Day dinner on Friday, Nov. 11 from 4-6 p.m. The menu will include turkey, stuffing, potatoes, cranberry sauce, vegetable and rolls.

The meal is offered free to all veterans. Non-veterans pay $15.

RSVP at 315-848-2089. Veterans who need a ride should call the number previously listed.

Take-outs will be available, and delivery will be provided for shut-ins.

The event is open to the public and proceeds will benefit the Legion Auxiliary.
