North Country This Week

Fireworks will be on display Sunday in Norwood, and Saturday in Hannawa Falls, Massena and Morristown.

Norwood

The Norwood Fire Association will kick off Independence Day with a parade at noon. The parade route will be Maple Street to Spring Street onto Rt. 56 to Bicknell Street then to Morgan Street, ending at the firemen’s field.

Cotton candy, snow cones and a bounce house will be available for the children all day at the firehouse. Anyone interested in participating in the parade are asked to contact Andy Fykes at 315-244-4899 or call the firehouse.

The Norwood Brass Firemen will perform before a demolition derby gets underway at 2:30 p.m. at the Firemen’s Field.

Fireworks will begin at dusk. If anyone would like to donate towards the cost of the fireworks display, make checks payable to the Norwood Firemen’s Association, and send to P.O. Box 231, Norwood, NY 13668.

This year there will not be a block dance on Saturday, July 3.

In its place, the Norwood Lake Association will hold its second annual Flotilla on Norwood Lake. The event is open to anyone with any type of boat. Boats can be launched from the launch near the American Legion or at the beach. Boats will line up in the cove near the cemetery for a noon start.

The Norwood Brass Firemen will be playing both during the flotilla and at the beach. Local band Past Doubt will also be performing.

The Norwood Library will be partnering with Michelle Garrow at the beach at 1:15 p.m. for story time and a craft. There will also be a Red, White and Blue family tie-dye activity. People will need to bring a white item to dye such as a t-shirt, socks, boxers, or towel. Directions and supplies will be provided. For more information, call the beach at 315-353-9965.

The beach will be open on Sunday, July 4, for swimming, kayaking, and picnicking from noon to 8 p.m.

Hannawa Falls

The 36th annual Robert Plumb Memorial Fireworks display will be set off at dusk on Saturday, July 3 at Postwood Park in Hannawa Falls. Viewing spots are available along State Highway 56.

The Morristown Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary will host an outdoor craft fair from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the field behind the fire station. Visit their Facebook page (Morristown VFD Auxiliary) for updated vendors listings and details if interested in being a vendor.

This year’s parade at noon will consist of a parade of classic cars featuring the Seaway Valley Cruisers. Leading the parade will be the fire department’s newly-refurbished 1935 Ford Sanford fire truck. The parade will travel the typical parade route, ending at the fire station where the vehicles will be on display. This year’s parade will be hosted by the Gateway Museum in honor of Morristown’s 200th birthday. Interested participants are asked to arrive at the intersection of Rt. 58 and Main Street by 11:30 a.m.
