The unemployment rate in St. Lawrence currently stands at 5.7 percent, 1.6 percent lower than the New York state rate.
According to a state Department of Labor report issued this week, the county’s unemployment rate decreased 5 percent since June 2020 when the rate was 10.7 percent as the pandemic shut-down was in full force.
The state unemployment rate is 7.3 percent.
In neighboring counties, the unemployment in Jefferson County is 5.1 percent, down 5.6 percent from 10.7 percent in June 2020. Franklin County’s unemployment rate is 5.1, a drop of 6.1 percent from 11.2 percent in June 2020.
Rates are calculated using methods prescribed by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The State’s area unemployment rates rely in part on the results of the Current Population Survey, which contacts approximately 3,100 households in New York State each month.
