Governor Kathy Hochul says the state will make $375 million in capital investments to support nearly 13,000 jobs statewide but none of those jobs will be in St. Lawrence County.

In a press release, Houchul announced that the New York Power Authority Board of Trustees approved economic development awards under the state’s ReCharge NY program, assisting 41 firms with capital investments that will support nearly 13,000 jobs, 170 of which will be newly created.

“By leveraging low-cost hydropower, the New York Power Authority is catalyzing billions of dollars of private capital investments and supporting jobs throughout New York State," Hochul said.

“The awards approved by the NYPA Trustees at today’s meeting underscore the Power Authority’s commitment to strengthening New York’s economy today and into the future.”

As part of the program, nearly nine megawatts of low-cost power under the ReCharge NY program will be directed to 41 companies in the Capital District, North Country, Finger Lakes, Southern Tier, Mohawk Valley, Hudson Valley, New York City, Western New York and on Long Island.

The firms in the North Country region include CLR Carthage LLC in Carthage, Jefferson County and Essex Operations Associates LLC in Elizabethtown, Essex County.

Both firms will receive $50,000 each to sustain 137 and 115 jobs respectively.

Neither firm will see any new jobs created from the program.

In New York City, 16 firms will receive a combined $339,350,000 to sustain 9,482 jobs. No new jobs will be created with those funds.

New York Power Authority President and CEO Justin E. Driscoll said, “The NYPA Board of Trustees today allocated nearly nine megawatts of low-cost power under the ReCharge NY program in direct support of jobs and capital investments throughout New York State. Economic development awards from the New York Power Authority continue to serve as a backbone for New York’s clean energy economy and I’m pleased to see these awards approved today.”

New York Power Authority Chairman John R. Koelmel said, “The Power Authority is continuing to maximize its value to the State through the sale of unused Niagara hydropower for funding benefits to local business and communities. The funding award approved at today’s meeting to Whiting will directly support the creation of 25 jobs and is indicative of the Power Authority’s commitment to continue strengthening Western New York’s economy.”
