St. Lawrence County sales tax collection down $700,000 in August

St. Lawrence County's sales tax collection dropped 12.5%, or about $700,000, in August from the same month last year.

The state comptroller's office said the county took in $4.5 million in sales tax last month, compared to $5.2 million in August 2019.

Year-to-date collection for the county is down 1.7%. The comptroller says the county has taken in $38.2 million year-to-date, and had received $38.9 million during the same period in 2019.

To the east in Franklin County, August sales tax receipts dropped 7.3% to $2 million last month, from $2.1 million in August 2019. Year-to-date collections have increased 1% to $16 million from $15.8 million for the same time period last year.

To the west in Jefferson County, August sales tax collections dropped 14.1% to $6.3 million last month from $7.3 million in August 2019. Year-to-date, they've lost 5.3%, having taken in $48.4 million so far, compared to $51.1 million for the same time last year.
