North Country This Week
CANTON — Col. Sanders has brought his world famous Kentucky fried chicken to Canton.
KFC opened up Monday in the former Domino’s location at Mountain Mart, 103 East Main St. KFC joins Dunkin’ and a Mobil gas station.
“It was kind of slow early but around noon people realized that we have a KFC in Canton,” said Mike Berger, who cooks and handles marketing at the restaurant.
Business picked up in the afternoon as a large fried chicken chain opened its doors to the community for the first time in about 40 years, he said.
“The afternoon crew took a little bit of a beating,” Berger said.
Berger said the last major chicken restaurant in Canton, Dixie Lee, closed around 1980.
“I am hoping this will be a big thing in the community,” Berger said.
There are currently more than 20 people employed there.
White Management Corporation, owner of the Canton and Massena KFC restaurants, are planning a grand opening in Canton in early February.
Hours are 10:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. daily with plans to expand hours in late January. They are closed on Christmas.
Their phone number is 315-355-3699.
