10% more people got unemployment benefits in St. Lawrence County in September

An additional 200 people received unemployment benefits in St. Lawrence County in September, compared to a year ago.

The Department of Labor reports 2,200 people in the county received benefits last month, up from 2,000 in Sept. 2019. The September rate rose to 5% from 4.7% during that time, and DOL says 41,400 people were employed in the county last month compared to 41,900 in Sept. 2019.

In Franklin County, 200 more people went on unemployment, 1,000 last month and 800 the same month last year. Their rate went from 4.1% a year ago to 5.1% last month. 18,500 people were employed in the county last month, down from 19,000 a year ago.

In Jefferson County, 200 more people received benefits. DOL says there were 2,300 last month and 2,100 the same time last year. Their rate went from 4.7% in Sept. 2019 to 5.4% last month. DOL says 39,700 people were employed in the county last month, down from 41,800 a year ago.
