WADDINGTON – Even though Waddington was the runner-up in the World Fishing Network’s “Ultimate Fishing Town USA” contest and didn’t take first place, the community is still planning to celebrate.

A “Community Victory Party” is planned from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 19 on Island View Park and Lower Main Street.

After leading by as many as 9,000 votes, Waddington ended up in second place behind the Sullivan County community of Roscoe in the cable television network contest.

The vote was 272,267 for Roscoe, compared to 270,084 for Waddington.

As a result, Roscoe, and not Waddington, is expected to the grand prize consisting of $25,000 for fishing-related tourist promotion, ten WaveSpin reels nd a half-hour documentary on the World Fishing Network cable tv channel.

However, Waddington will still receive $5,000 for fishing-related causes in the community.

“It wouldn’t have happened without support from people like you,” said Alicia Murphy, president of the Waddington Chamber of Commerce. “As a way of saying thank you, we’d like to cordially invite you to join us in celebrating our success at Waddington’s Community Victory Party.”

Food, music, kids’ games, and fun for all ages is planned. A grand prize consisting of a full day of fishing with PBS’s “Streamside Fishing” Host, Don Meissner will also be given away.

The open container law has been lifted for the event, so those attending are invited to bring their own bottle responsibly.
