Sheila M. Marshall, 68, Hogansburg

HOGANSBURG -- Sheila M. Marshall, 68, of 378 State Route 37, peacefully passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024, at the Alice Center in Malone.

Sheila was born on June 29, 1955, in Massena, daughter of John Donald and Minerva C. (Garrow) White.

She was a Salmon River Central School graduate and earned her BA from SUNY Potsdam and her Master’s Degree from St. Lawrence University.

She married Errol Marshall, the marriage ended in divorce.

She was a member of the St. Regis Catholic Church, and the Salmon River Central School board, where she served as president for three years.

She was on the Akwesasne Library Board and an active member of the NIEA-New York Committee until her retirement.

She first worked for the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe and instituted the first food distribution program, and then worked at SUNY Potsdam as the Director of the Potsdam Akwesasne Talent Search program - PATS.

She retired from SUNY as the Director of the Center for Diversity in 2016.

Sheila loved cooking and baking and fervently followed Martha Stewart and Ina Garten. She loved to entertain and cook for others, hosting many parties on her porch and making creations for others.

Always generous with her time and talents, she would start making treats in November to deliver to families on Christmas Eve morning.

She had an appreciation for fine wine and was an avid sports fan, especially the Miami Dolphins.

Sheila is survived by her daughter, Aubrey Marshall of Owings Mills, MD; her grandchildren, Athaan Abdul Kaudeyr (Raweras) and Baileigh Tucker; her parents, John D. and Minerva C. White; her sisters, Leigh (Shane) Shovestull and Nanette (Marty) Taho, all of Arizona; her nieces, Maya (Ryan) Haines, Ciara (Richard) Karsten, all of Arizona; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was predeceased by her brother, Myles White.

Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home Monday, 1-5PM where a funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM.

Memorial donations may be made in Sheila’s memory to the Akwesasne Library.
