He graduated from Massena High School in 1962 where he met the love of his life, Bonnie. They were married on May 30, 1964.

Phil worked for Niagara Mohawk and never met anyone who he didn't quickly call a friend.

Phil was often found watching old western movies and enjoying strong coffee and donuts.

He loved to hunt, fish, and be with his horses. Most of all, Phil loved being a dad and “Papa.”

Phil is survived by his children, Julie Spellicy (Mike), Melissa Emerson (Jean Bonnet), and Philip Whitton, Jr. (Allison); his grandchildren, Nick (Kaytlin) and Cody Emerson, Michael, Mikayla (Trevor), and Logan (Brittany) Spellicy, Ryan and Ava Whitton; his four great grandchildren; his sister, Donna Tharrett (Robert). Phil is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many good friends who he considered family.

Phil was predeceased by his dear wife, Bonnie (Harmon) Whitton and his grandson, Nathan Whitton.

Services will be held on Saturday, June 8. 2024 at 11am at Knapps Station Community Church, 3035 CR 47 Norwood, NY 13668.

A celebration of his life with food will be held directly after the services at the adjacent Fellowship Hall.

There are no calling hours.

As Phil was a cowboy at heart and was never without his hat, the family invites all to join them in wearing cowboy hats for the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions may be made in Phil’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital ( http://www.stjude.org ).
