Lawrence "Mike" LaComb, 77, Ogdensburg

OGDENSBURG -- Lawrence “Mike” LaComb, age 77, of Ogdensburg, NY, passed away on Thursday March 7, 2024, at the V.A. Hospital in Syracuse, NY.

A graveside service will be held Friday, July 19, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Madrid Cemetery with Pastor Rob Schirmer officiating.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fox & Murray Funeral Home.

Mr. LaComb is survived by his wife, Mary LaComb of Ogdensburg; his children, Joseph (Amanda) LaComb of Long Island, NY, Patrick LaComb of Albany, NY, and Elizabeth LaComb of Ocala, FL; his brothers, Donald “Doc” (Linda) LaComb of Ogdensburg, Peter (Lee) LaComb of Jacksonville, FL, Kevin (Sherrie) LaComb of Henderson, NV, and Denis LaComb of Ogdensburg; his sisters, Mary “Connie” Simpson of Carthage, NY, Martha (George) Mordica of Leavenworth, KS, Jewel LaComb of Ogdensburg, Brenda (Greg) Manke of Northridge, CA, Bridget Koban of Ogdensburg, and Carmen Downing of Heuvelton; sisters-in-law, Winsome LaComb of Joppa, MD and Rona LaComb of Myrtle Beach, SC; his grandchildren, Elliott and Russell LaComb of Long Island, NY; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, Augustus J. and Katherine E. LaComb; his brothers, Augustus “Gus” LaComb and Erle LaComb; and brothers-in-law, James Simpson and Harold “Mike” Downing.

Mike was born September 15, 1946, in Ogdensburg, NY to the late Augustus J. and Katherine E. (Sharland) LaComb. On July 5, 1986, Mike married Mary A. Newton at the Ogdensburg Methodist Church. They were happily married for 37 years.

After graduating from Ogdensburg Free Academy, Mike joined the United States Navy in 1966 as an Electricianmate 2nd Class where he carried out brown-water missions. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal Meritorious Unit Commendation.

After being honorably discharged in 1970, Mike worked with his father at LaComb News Agency for two years, for the City of Ogdensburg at the Pump House, and the Ogdensburg Post Office.

As a letter carrier he was commended as a Distinguished Citizen for rescuing six elderly residents from a house fire. He retired from the United States Postal Service in 1995.

Mike enjoyed going to auctions, the casino, and watching the Detroit Red Wings.
