Jane Lawrence, 90, Waddington

WADDINGTON -- Jane Lawrence, age 90, passed away peacefully at United Helpers Rehabilitation & Senior Care Maplewood Campus on Saturday, March 23, 2024.

A graveside service will take place at the convenience of the family in Brookside Cemetery, Waddington.

Jane was born in Ogdensburg, NY on August 27, 1933, to the late Walter and Mary (Pearl) Post. She attended school in Canton, NY.

Jane married Royal S. Lawrence on September 22, 1951, at the Waddington Methodist Church.

She was employed by Uhl, Hall and Rich during the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway. As a consequence of the Seaway project, Jane and Royal lost their rented home and Royal's family farm and family gravesites.

She also worked at Hanes & Hanson Hardware /V&S Variety store in Waddington for many years.

Jane & Royal enjoyed boating on the St. Lawrence River, which included many trips to the 1000 Islands, and also snowmobiling and four wheeling.

After retirement, Jane & Royal spent their winters in Lake Havasu City, Arizona going to casinos, spending time on the Colorado River and making many new friends.

In later years, Jane enjoyed spending time with her local group the “Eighties Ladies” and playing cards with good friends in Massena.

She was also passionate about genealogy, spending many hours researching and documenting the family history.

Jane served on the Waddington committee during the relicensing process of the NYPA Power Project, and later worked on the shoreline erosion program for Waddington.

Above all, she loved spending time with her children, and later grandchildren and great-grandchildren, making fond memories and sharing in many of their activities.

Her loving children survive her: Russell A. and wife, Faye, Steven R. and wife, Nancy, and Roy W. and wife, Dawn. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Wade G Lawrence, Rylee Jane Lawrence, Delanie Lawrence, Ashley Mackaravitz and Jessica Wheeler, along with five great-grandchildren, Sadie, Madigan, Harlow, Brooks and Rowan. Jane is survived by two siblings, Joan Hundley and Frank Post. She was especially close to a niece, Barbara Burke of Russell, NY.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her devoted husband, Royal S Lawrence on September 9, 2013; also, her siblings, Bertha Callahan, Dorothy Grace Post, Helen Elizabeth Rexford, Donald James Post, Richard Paul Post, Marjorie Anne Hutchinson and Daniel Walter Post.
