Andrew R. Root, 64, formerly of Hannawa Falls

HANNAWA FALLS -- Andrew ‘Rooter’ Root has passed March 8, 2024, at his home in Pickens, SC after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Potsdam to Lloyd (Red) and Lucy Root he was reared in Hannawa Falls where he met and married his soul mate Valerie (Fraser) in August, 1991.

He was a formidable river rat and relished his time and subsequent visits to summer camp with family and friends.

They eventually relocated to Pickens, SC where they shared many happy years.

Andy enjoyed nothing more than relaxing on his front porch after a dip in the pool, in company of his dogs, watching NASCAR as an avid fan.

He will be greatly missed.

Along with his parents, he is predeceased by his oldest brother, Douglas.

He is survived by his wife, Valerie; a sister, Kathy (Jeff) Demo of West Parishville, NY; brothers, Ken (Conny) of Endicott, NY and Kevin (Daphne) of Black River, NY; a granddaughter, Journey Fraser; several nieces and nephews; and a gaggle of cousins.

A private service shall be conducted at a later date.

May he now rest peacefully.
