Contract negotiations between United Communications Corporation, owners of WWNY-TV and WNYF FOX-28, which permit DIRECTV to sell its programming on their service has reached an impasse.
A contract extension which extended carriage during negotiations expired Monday, according to a press release from WWNYy.
This impasse also affects United Communications CBS and FOX affiliate KEYC-TV in Mankato, Minnesota, the release says. Without a contract in place, WWNY/WNYF programming will be blacked out on DIRECTV.
United Communications President/Owner Lucy Brown said, “United Communications is a small family-owned company whose focus has always been to serve the needs of their local viewers. It’s unfortunate that a large corporation like AT&T (DIRECTV), which profits from our programming, doesn’t appreciate the value of it.”
“United Communication has been seeking an agreement for fair compensation, based on the value its programming brings to viewers, as well as the cost for us to bring local news, and programming from the CBS and FOX Networks,” the release said.
United has successfully negotiated agreements with all other program providers.
“Those providers all felt that they were able to reach a fair deal with us while continuing to offer value to their subscribers,” WWNY said.
