CANTON – A Utica woman has been charged with filing for social service benefits in St. Lawrence County while she was already getting them from elsewhere.
Emma Jean Allen, 52, also known as Regina E. Stinson, was charged Friday by the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office with a felony count of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing after county social service workers looked into her claim. They discovered that the applicant was already receiving social services benefits from Oneida County under a different name.
Deputies also charged Allen with false personation for allegedly giving two false names to a sheriff’s civil officer in the Town of Lawrence previously.
Allen was arraigned in Canton Village Court before Justice O’Horo and was ordered held on $1,000 cash bail to answer the charges at a later date.
Deputies say further charges are possible, pending the completion of their investigation.
