NORFOLK -- Two people were reported hurt and hospitalized after an accident involving a state police patrol vehicle and another vehicle in Norfolk Wednesday afternoon.
Troopers in Massena, responding to County Rt. 49 at 5:19 p.m., found that a 2013 Ford State Police patrol vehicle, operated by Trooper Leah G. Malbeuf, 25, was traveling northwest on County Route 49, and a 2008 Toyota Matrix, operated by Cathy A. Ashlaw, 60, of Brasher was traveling northeast on County Route 38.
Trooper Malbeuf's vehicle struck Ashlaw's vehicle at the intersection of County Route 49 and County Route 38, according to the initial investigation, state police said.
Ashlaw was transferred to University of Vermont Medical Center after first being taken to Massena Memorial Hospital by Norfolk Rescue, for injuries that were not described in the state police account.
Trooper Malbeuf was transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital by Norfolk Rescue for injuries she sustained in the accident.
The New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene.
The accident investigation is ongoing.
More information will be released when the investigation is completed, state police said.
