WADDINGTON -- State police are seeking the public's help with identifying the male suspect in a surveillance photo taken last night at the Waddington Dollar General during a robbery.
Investigators said a white male suspect entered the store at 11997 State Rt. 37 at about 8:39 p.m., made a purchase and left the store. He then walked back into the store at about 8:46 p.m. and walked around the aisles of the store, allowing other customers to leave, investigators said.
Then he approached the register to purchase a piece of candy, and as the clerk opened the register drawer as the suspect gave money to pay for the candy, he forcibly grabbed about $80 cash.
The suspect fled the store on foot running east towards Geneva Street.
The male suspect was described as white, approximately 5'10," thin build, possibly early 30s, clean shaven, with short dark-colored hair, wearing a black sweatshirt, blue jeans, sneakers, and a black ball cap with a gray bill and gray Under Armour logo on the front.
Police say reports that a knife was used in the robbery are not accurate based on information provided by investigators.
“Apparently the suspect was wearing a sheathed knife on his waist, but it never came into play during the robbery. It was not presented, threatened or brandished,” police said.
Anyone having information regarding this incident or the identity of the suspect is encouraged to contact the State Police in Canton at (315) 379-0012.
