STAR LAKE – A garage was destroyed but a quick response by firefighters saved a house in Star Lake Saturday, according to St. Lawrence County fire investigators.
Ed Dowling, the tenant in the house at 309 Youngs Rd., did not know about the fire until firefighters arrived on the scene, investigators said.
Star Lake firefighters responded at 2:31 a.m. and mutual aid was provided by the Newton Falls, Fine and Cranberry Lake fire departments. The Piercefield Fire Department was on stand-by.
Cause of the blaze is under investigation. Damage to the house was described as moderate, investigators said.
The property, owned by Donna Lawrence of East Main Street in Gouverneur, was insured, investigators said.
Star Lake firefighters returned to the station at 6:01 a.m.
