North Country Congressman Owens to host telephone town hall meeting on Wednesday

Posted

Outgoing Congressman Bill Owens will host a telephone town hall forum from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1.

The telephone meeting is designed to bring constituents into the conversation about government, much like a regular town hall meeting would.

Residents in northern New York’s 21st Congressional District will be sampled randomly to receive a telephone invitation to participate. Constituents can also request an invitation to join the call by doing one of the following:

• Email name and complete phone number to ny21townhall@mail.house.gov

• Call Owens’ Washington office at 202-225-4611

• Fill out a web form available at http://owens.house.gov/contact/teletownhall.htm

This telephone forum provides constituents access in a district of more than 16,000 square miles. Owens will update participants briefly on the situation in Washington, D.C. and across the district followed by a question and answer period.

“These telephone town halls are a valuable opportunity for me to get in touch with constituents, which can be a challenge in a district as large as ours,” said Owens. “They give constituents another way to share their thoughts and opinions and hear my take on the local and national situations impacting the district. For everyone who is able to join me on our call tomorrow night, I look forward to speaking with you.”

Owens, a Plattsburgh Democrat, is not running to keep the seat in the House of Representatives.

Republican Elise Stefanik of Willsboro, Democrat Aaron Woolf of Elizabethtown, and Matt Funiciello of Glens Falls, representing the Green Party, are running to win the seat.

If constituents are unable to participate in Wednesday’s telephone forum, they can still bring questions or concerns to his attention by calling one of his New York district offices, located in Watertown, Gloversville, Plattsburgh and Glens Falls, or his office in Washington, D.C. He can also be reached through his congressional website at owens.house.gov, on Facebook at facebook.com/repbillowens or on twitter at twitter.com/BillOwensNY.
