OGDENSBURG -- Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority say they selected groSolar to design, build and operate a 1 megawatt solar project at a site on Tibbitts Drive.

Once operational, the solar project will produce clean electricity to meet all of the authority’s energy requirements, OBPA said.

The solar project will comprise about 6 acres and consist of roughly 4,000 photovoltaic modules. The project will produce approximately 1,550,000 kilowatt hours of electricity. This equates to 175 homes powered for one year or 125 cars taken off the road for one year, OBPA said.

The solar project will be financed in part by a grant from the NY-Sun Competitive PV Program which is administered by New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). NY-Sun is a $1 billion state initiative, OBPA said.

"This is an excellent example where the authority can…promote sustainability and reduce electrical costs," OBPA executive director Wade Davis said.

OBPA collaborated with Larsen Engineers of Rochester to solicit bids from solar developers and selected groSolar to develop, construct, own, and operate the project.
