NORWOOD – The Norwood Village Green Concert Series has embarked on a new fundraising campaign to replace parabolic lights at the band shell where the concerts take place.

And they are employing a new fundraising method, through Adirondack Gives, a crowd-funding site for Adirondack region nonprofits.

According to concert series founder and president Joe Liotta, the goal is to raise $800 through Adirondack Gives to purchase two Mega Par Profile Systems of four lights each, plus accessories.

This is the first step in replacing the 12 lamps they have but which are deteriorating.

The aging lights they have now “are at the end of their useful lives and becoming difficult to maintain,” Liotta said.

“They are also costly to run and generate heat that is uncomfortable for the performers in summer conditions. Additionally the new lighting system will be invaluable in enhancing the aesthetic presentation enabling the series audiences added visual delight to the music, theater, and dance performances.” The new lights will also be portable, able to produce light for performances that are forced indoors during inclement weather.

The Norwood Village Green Concert Series was founded in 1974 and has hosted hundreds of outdoor concerts, workshops and other activities over the years.

Liotta said the series has served over 600,000 audience members, school children and performers over the past 40 years “and we hope that many people will give something to this cause.”
