Norwood Police Department purchases new patrol SUV

NORWOOD -- The Norwood Police Department recently bought a new patrol SUV.

Assistant Chief Chris Radel said the 2018 Ford Explorer was partially paid for with a $10,000 USDA grant with the remaining $33,000 paid for through a loan.

“During the research of the new patrol car we looked at the previous vehicles that Norwood Police had purchased. Being located in the north country we needed an SUV type vehicle that had AWD and that can endure the harsh weather and rough roads. Having an SUV it would essentially keep the maintenance down in the long run. We also had to keep in mind of officer safety when they are out road patrol. With that being said we had decals put on that were all reflective and added more emergency lights than our previous vehicles,” Radel wrote in an email.

Radel said the new vehicle also needed new radar and radio equipment.

He said former Norwood officer Brandon Murray, who left to take a job as a county sheriff deputy, helped with getting the vehicle even after going to work for the county.

"Norwood PD would like to thank the village Mayor, village board members and the residents of Norwood for their support in the project.," the chief said.
