OGDENSBURG -- Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center recently hosted an educational presentation by the Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network (FLDRN) and the Finger Lakes Eye and Tissue Bank (FLETB) to update and educate area healthcare professionals on trends and regulations in organ donation.

Over 30 people, many from other facilities, attended the workshop.

The day was capped off by a personal story from Ogdensburg native, teacher and coach Mike Sargent, who became blind and spoke about what life has been since receiving corneal transplants.

For many years, Claxton-Hepburn has actively participated in organ allocation, for both donor and recipient.

FLDRN and FLETB continue to partner with Claxton-Hepburn to bring their clinical expertise to the local arena, working with the Medical Center to educate the public and medical community.

Attending were, standing, from left, Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center employees Cheryl O’Brien, Jennifer Shaver, and Mark Darou, and Bill Sainsbury of FLDRN. Seated are Christa Tribble from Claxton-Hepburn and Elizabeth Moreland, regional coordinator of the FLETB.
