MASSENA -- The Board of Education has re-appointed their board president, but was unable to reach a majority vote to appoint a new vice president.
At their Thursday reorganizational meeting, the board had agenda items to make annual appointments to the new positions, each of which requires at least five votes for a confirmation.
Trustee Robert Leblanc nominated Paul Haggett for the vice president post. Trustee Jason Premo nominated Kevin Peretta. The board went 4-3 for Haggett, who voted for himself, along with Amber Baines, Leblanc and Pat Bronchetti. Premo and Trustee Marc Goodfellow voted for Peretta, who also voted for himself. Trustees David LaClair and Loren Fountaine were not at the meeting.
District Clerk Candice Prairie said it is “not wise practice” to be without a vice president, but they can poll again next month, even though they are not mandated by law to have one.
The board also voted to approve Pat Bronchetti to another year as board president. He was the only nominee for the position.
